Google and Facebook probably have some of the largest traditional sales teams available in America and beyond. The sales and marketing process is very different from the creative process. While it is possible to maybe have sales offices in Los Angeles and New York, the actual work gets done in Mountain View and Menlo Park.
The premise of the initial post was that talent is not “ready made”, these organizations by their nature and culture assist in creating great talent. My position is that this was made possible by creating a bubble that isolates the external culture. That culture may need isolation to be built up.
Scale on the other hand also needs cost effective production and distribution. Having a team in a cost effective location where it can thrive without distraction is what the desire should be. You would be surprised that a lot of places have better infrastructure and electricity than you imagine.
